Kewpie love

It has been a crazy month with a lot of traveling. We finally get a little break at HOME before our next trip. I've got some nice craft supplies on the trip up to Vancouver. It was nice to visit and enjoy the great food there.
I don't remember since when I fell in love with Kewpie dolls. They are just so adorable.
Gotta get back to work. Have a happy week! =)

Pumpkin Patch

We made a visit to a pumpkin patch a few days ago. The field was filled with big and small colorful pumpkin. It was so beautiful there. I can't resist and kept my camera shooting. It was very generous of the farm to offer a free corn maze.
One more day to go and our lantern is on already! Happy Thursday!

Mini vacation

We headed north for a mini road trip last week. It was nice to be in the country. Even though it was only a few hundred miles away from home, it was so different in many ways. We went to a little town filled with European shops and resturants. There was a small grocery store just like the ones in the movies. They have a lot of gourmet jelly, sauce, candy bars and tons of cheese. I love grocery stores. =)
We tried the Danish pancakes with fresh strawberries and buttermilk pancakes in a local restaurant.
The Danish ones was okay. But the buttermilk pancake was sooo fluffy that it was one of the best ones we've ever had. We made a stop at the Mission Ranch by the ocean. It was so beautiful and peaceful there.

Happy Wednesday! =)

Feature in Esty Tresury

Girl in the Rain is featuring in Esty Tresury. Thanks Vintage Embellishment for including us and all of you who like it. =)

Weeking outing

We went to the Global festival in a local park over the weekend. It featured food and culture from all over the world. It was nice to have a chance to try out different food at one place.
This is a Japanese pancake called Okonomiyaki. It is made from a special batter mixed with cabbage and corn and topped with teriyaki sauce. Delicious! We then went to one of the oldest bookstore in town, Vroman's. It has many books that we don't often see in other bookstores. The Crafter's Companion features many popular crafters. It gave me a lot of inspiration. The other one is Downtown DIY Sewing. It has a lot nice patterns and the styles are very up-to-date. Definitely recommended if you are planning to do some sewing.
Have a great week! =)

Weekend reading

Came across this interesting book over the weekend at Compass Books at Downtown Disney. The book is written by famous artist, Patrick McDonnell, creator of Mutts comic strip. I really enjoy the simplicity of the book and the mood is just right for the fall season.

Happy Tuesday!
The first mushroom painting which is dedicated to the greatness of Love. The two little strangers come across each other on an ordinary day for the first time. It is so unexpected and special. They feel like they have known each other for a very long time.

boil perm

basic instruction for dolly boil perm.

Same as most of the customization, a lot of patience is needed in this process.

Things to prepare :
- aluminum foil sheets, approximate 5cm x 6cm or human boil perm rollers
- pot of boiling water

tips : smaller rolls, smaller curls; larger rolls, larger curls. =)

1. Wrap the hair as shown in picture.
2. Roll up the hair as shown in picture. Fold the two ends of the foil together to stable the roll.
3. When all hair is done, boil a pot of water. Once the big bubbles come up, turn off the stove and put the doll’s head (up to hair line) into the water. Make sure all the hair are dipped in. Leave the hair in the water for 1 minute for non-permanent and 2-3 minutes for permanent curls.
Caution: Hot steam may cause eyelashes fall off.
4. Leave the doll in open air and let the hair air dry for at least 5 days. (mine took a week to dry thoroughly.)
Caution: Don’t use hair dryer on your doll. It will melt her hair.

5. When the hair is dry, remove the foils.Finished!6. Create your own style!
Important: Trim off the frizzy ends.
Petites:
The same practice can be used on Petites. As it should take shorter time for Petite’s hair to dry.
