Vintage Love

Happy Tuesday! I've almost forgot that we have a short week this week. We had a lovely weekend with some local adventure and great foods. We visited a neat antique shop, Fong's, in Chinatown. They don't only sell Chinese antiques, they have many exotic and unique accessories and a miniature section which is perfect if you are building a doll house.
We also did some serious grocery shopping. Thanks to The Black Apple and Martha's inspiration on so many delicious bakings. Therefore, we decided to do some ourselves too. =)
This is the little book we found a few weeks ago at the Orange Circle. "Love Is a Special Way of Feeling" by Joan Walsh Anglund, was published in 1960. Both words and illustrations were done by Mrs. Anglund.
We've also found this adorable vintage Valentine's Day card.

Cotton Candy

This is how I used to enjoy cotton candy when I was little. Stuff it to my face and got it all over my nose and eyelashes. I haven't done that for a long time. It seems like they only sell them in bags now.

Have a Happy Wednesday! =)

Best Beef Sandwiches

I can't wait to share with you this historic restaurant, Philippe, opened since 1908. The founder claimed to be the creator of French Dipped Sandwich.
It was so packed when we got there. We stood in one of the many lines and took our time to study the menu. To be honest, it was our first time to try French dipped sandwiches. We got two double-dipped. I requested mine with blue cheese and added some of their hot French mustard. It was sooo good!!We've also tried the potato salad and baked apple. They were both pretty good. The baked apple tasted like an apple pie without crust. I like it because it wasn't too sweet. In fact, we wanted more sandwiches but don't want to stand back in line. So, we'll wait for next time!

new set

Here comes the new set. It's polka dots again. =P They are just too cute to resist! The little chocolate milk dots blouse is so elegant. Match it with the toddler's treasures skirt to show the adorable side. Or, mix with the distressed jeans to show some attitude. A simple black shirt and a pearl necklace speaks a lot for itself. And of course, they are the must have in the wardrobe.

Happy Wednesday!

Old Town Adventure

What a nice weekend it was! I hope you had a wonderful one too. We drove out to the Old Town in Orange. It was our first time. We had sandwiches at Watson's, a soda fountain pharmacy since 1899. Food was so so but it was a fun experience tho. After lunch, we wandered around the Orange Circle. Many many antique shoppes and Valentine's theme was everywhere. There were two selling country style treasures which we like most. We bought a little love booklet which I am not supposed to open it until Valentine's Day. So I will share with you later. =)
We had dinner at Felix's, a Cuban and Spanish restaurant. It wasn't the most appealing restaurant. But it was packed the whole time and the food was Great! The roast chicken was sooo delish and juicy. Yum!!
And we saw Revolutionary Road. It was GOOD! It was so beautifully filmed and the performance was super awesome. Heavy tho.

Have a happy week! =)

trip across the globe

Happy New Year!
We flew across the globe to the southern part of Japan. Many volcanoes and of course, hot springs there. It was nice that we tried a lot of traditional Japanese meal like Kaiseki, which contains many many small dishes. There were cold appetizers, hot dishes, seafood hot pot, mini teriyaki, soup, dessert, etc. As a big fan of Japanese rice, I have to say that the rice in Japan is sooooo good. Ummmm. =)
Happy Thursday!

Pumpkin Patch

We made a visit to a pumpkin patch a few days ago. The field was filled with big and small colorful pumpkin. It was so beautiful there. I can't resist and kept my camera shooting. It was very generous of the farm to offer a free corn maze.
One more day to go and our lantern is on already! Happy Thursday!

Mini vacation

We headed north for a mini road trip last week. It was nice to be in the country. Even though it was only a few hundred miles away from home, it was so different in many ways. We went to a little town filled with European shops and resturants. There was a small grocery store just like the ones in the movies. They have a lot of gourmet jelly, sauce, candy bars and tons of cheese. I love grocery stores. =)
We tried the Danish pancakes with fresh strawberries and buttermilk pancakes in a local restaurant.
The Danish ones was okay. But the buttermilk pancake was sooo fluffy that it was one of the best ones we've ever had. We made a stop at the Mission Ranch by the ocean. It was so beautiful and peaceful there.

Happy Wednesday! =)

Feature in Esty Tresury

Girl in the Rain is featuring in Esty Tresury. Thanks Vintage Embellishment for including us and all of you who like it. =)

Weeking outing

We went to the Global festival in a local park over the weekend. It featured food and culture from all over the world. It was nice to have a chance to try out different food at one place.
This is a Japanese pancake called Okonomiyaki. It is made from a special batter mixed with cabbage and corn and topped with teriyaki sauce. Delicious! We then went to one of the oldest bookstore in town, Vroman's. It has many books that we don't often see in other bookstores. The Crafter's Companion features many popular crafters. It gave me a lot of inspiration. The other one is Downtown DIY Sewing. It has a lot nice patterns and the styles are very up-to-date. Definitely recommended if you are planning to do some sewing.
Have a great week! =)
